GET HELP FROM A CHC VOLUNTEER If you need assistance with household tasks, help filing your taxes, or a ride to a critical appointment, contact our volunteer services office at 234-8222. Whatever your needs, contact us… for any problem, any time! Income Tax Assistance CHC coordinates this program in Centre County on behalf of the IRS. Volunteers who become certified IRS tax preparers are available between February and April 15 to help community members file their tax returns. These volunteers staff several sites throughout Centre County. Help is available in State College, Bellefonte, Philipsburg, Millheim, and Snow Shoe. This free service is available to senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and people in low-income households. Volunteers are able to help you file your federal, state, and local tax returns, and also PACE and rent rebate forms. Free Income Tax Assistance Schedule Call 814-234-8222 to talk to a volunteer services coordinator about your tax filing needs. International students should contact Penn State’s International Hospitality Council for help filing their taxes. Transportation Assistance Our Provide-A-Ride volunteers provide free transportation to people who have no other options and need to get to critical medical or human services appointments. Service is available to destinations within and outside of Centre County. Rides are never guaranteed, but we work hard to accommodate as many requests as we are able. Volunteers can drive you to and from appointments, but cannot accompany you into appointment sites or help you get to and from the vehicle. To request a ride, call 814-234-8222 as long as: 1. You are a Centre County resident. 2. You have no other transportation options. 3. You have a scheduled medical or human service appointment. Medical appointments get priority. 4. Your appointment is at least 2 business days away, but no more than 2 weeks away. CHC Volunteer Services personnel will give you details about other transportation services while determining your eligibility for our program. Other options include friends and family, CATA’s Centre Line bus system, CATA’s Centre Ride paratransit system, and Centre County’s van service provided by C.C. Office of Transportation. Call 814-234-8222 to talk to a volunteer services coordinator about your transportation needs. Please note that all of our volunteer drivers have provided us with proof of insurance and have completed both a criminal background and driving record check.
Chore Assistance Volunteers are sometimes available to provide assistance to senior citizens and persons with disabilities who are unable to perform household tasks on their own. This service is available as a last resort, and only for sporadic needs. Volunteers typically help with leaf and snow removal, light lawn and garden work, basic errands, and other tasks for which volunteers are available.
